Dr. Joshua Freedman
Board Certified Dermatologist and Mohs Surgeon
Dr. Joshua Freedman is dual board-certified as a Dermatologist and a Mohs Micrographic Surgeon with specialized expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer, as well as comprehensive medical and surgical dermatology. He is a nationally recognized innovator in the field of dermatology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (F.A.A.D.), American Society for Mohs Surgery, and the American Society of Dermatological Surgeons. He is committed to delivering high-quality, patient centered care with an emphasis on precision, safety, and long-term outcomes.
Dr. Freedman trained as a dermatologist at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, in the prestigious department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery, which is ranked among the Nation’s Top Ten Programs. During his training he received numerous institutional and national awards for his inventions and innovations in cutting-edge, dermatological technology for early skin cancer detection. He claimed first place in the national Resident of Distinction, and Miller School of Medicine competitions for this work. Dr. Freedman earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Rush University Medical College and his Medicine Internship training at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital. While at Rush University, he served as the president of the Medical Student Surgery Group, and researched at the Craniofacial Center for Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Freedman graduated from Drexel University with master degrees in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, and continues to explore new ways to utilize technology to enhance dermatologic care.
Dr. Freedman greatly enjoys, and continues to seek out volunteer opportunities to give back to his community. He has received grants from the American Academy of Dermatology to support volunteer work in Native American Health Services on reservations in Chinle and Tsaile, Arizona. Dr. Freedman has provided volunteer service for Florida Keys Health Fairs and Camillus House Homeless Shelter. Dr. Freedman served as a student director for the Community Health Clinic in Chicago, which provided weekly free clinical care to the uninsured, and founded a new clinic that continues to serve uninsured Chicagoans today.
Dr. Freedman is originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania and has been practicing medicine in New Jersey since 2015. He is an expert in minimally invasive Mohs surgery, management of high risk skin cancers, cutaneous reconstruction, and skin cancer detection utilizing dermoscopy. He treats children and adults for conditions ranging across the spectrum of dermatological conditions, and believes in empowering patients through education. Dr. Freedman takes pride in his patient outcomes, building lasting relationships with his patients and referring providers. His practice philosophy is rooted in thoughtful, individualized care, and in guiding patients through diagnosis, treatment, and prevention with clarity and compassion.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Freedman is an avid outdoor adventurer, hiker, cyclist, snowboarder, and traveler. He has summited Kilimanjaro, hiked the Inca trail, heli-biked through Iceland and British Columbia, dropped in backcountry in US and Japan, and has a lengthy, aspirational list of many more literal and figurative summits across the globe. He has strong recommendations on sun protective gear for every one of these activities. He loves sharing these passions for the outdoors with his wife and children, and reminding them with unfailing precision when the time has come to reapply sunscreen.
